Digital Delivery Discussion Group
A Digital Delivery Discussion Group will convene on September 22 and is tentatively scheduled from 1 to 5 pm. A meeting room has been reserved at the Griffin Gate Marriott Resort.
Gary Handman (UC Berkeley) and Lawrence Daressa (California Newsreel) have written a white paper outlining some of the issues central to this discussion. In preparation for the September 22 discussion, you can read the white paper and comment on it here.

II. White Paper Walk-around (30 minutes)
- The assembled group will have the opportunity to read and post comments:
- What needs changing? Inaccuracies? What needs to be added? General thoughts?
III. Summary of White Paper Comments (40 min.)
- Volunteers will summarize the comments and report back to the assembled group.
IV. Affinity Group Break-out (40 minutes)
- Break-out into "affinity circles": college/university (3 circles); schools (1 circle); public libraries (1 circle); vendors (3 circles)
- Groups to address the following questions. (Each circle to elect a recorder for the ideas generated):
Librarians/Teachers
1. What are the key collection development challenges and concerns about transitioning to online video collections that you want distributors to know?
2. What are the key needs of your library or institution in regard to building online video collections.
3. What do you need to know from distributors that will help you shape your decisions for the future.
Distributors/Filmmakers
1. What are some of the key challenges and concerns about transitioning to online video delivery that you want buyers to know?
2. What are the key factors that are shaping your decisions about which economic models to adopt for digital video-on-demand licensing?
3. What do you need to know from buyers that will help you shape your decisions for the future.
BREAK (15 minutes)
IV. Reports from Affinity Groups/Discussion (40 minutes)
- Each circle will elect one representative to summarize the comments and ideas generated in their group.
- Discussion of reports from groups
V. Wrap-up (20 min.)
- Open Questions: What has been left out; which additional issues to consider; what have we learned?
